PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested five men suspected of being involved in a brawl during a Songkran festival celebration at a shopping mall here recently.

Petaling Jaya police chief Shahrulnizam Ja’afar said the suspects, aged in their 20s and 30s, were detained in Damansara to assist in the investigation, Sinar Harian reported.

“The incident allegedly began when several individuals clashed while trying to refill their water guns used during the festival,” he was quoted as saying.

Yesterday, Shahrulnizam said police had launched an investigation after a video of the altercation went viral on social media.

The 56-second clip showed a group of festival-goers engaged in a fight, with some hurling chairs at each other inside the mall.

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting while armed with weapons.
