PETALING JAYA:
Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil revealed that five police reports have been filed over an incident where an exhibitor at an event in a Kuala Lumpur mall screened a video showing the Jalur Gemilang without the crescent moon.

Fahmi, who is also communications minister, said the five reports were filed by representatives from the PKR and Umno divisions in Lembah Pantai last night at the Pantai police station.

“As far as I know, at least five reports have been lodged,” he told reporters after an event at Surau Al-Mu’min in Bukit Kerinchi, Kuala Lumpur, today.

He said the reports were filed to call for a police probe under the Emblems and Names Act 1950 and the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963, which fall under the home ministry’s jurisdiction.

“We leave it to the police to investigate the matter thoroughly. If they find any wrongdoing, we urge strict action to be taken.

“Firm action is needed because the Jalur Gemilang is a symbol of our national pride and sovereignty – it must not be taken lightly,” Fahmi added.

Yesterday, a Singapore-based baby food vendor apologised after screening a video at their booth showing the Jalur Gemilang without the crescent moon, the third such case within a week.

Singapore Lactation Bakes, which participated in a baby products trade show at the Mid Valley exhibition centre in Kuala Lumpur, said it was deeply and sincerely sorry over the blunder, acknowledging the significance of the flag as reflecting Malaysia’s identity, heritage and unity.

It said the mistake was unintentional yet regrettable, adding that it accepted full responsibility.

The organiser of the TCE Baby Expo said it had shut down the exhibitor’s booth after the issue came to light, and that an internal investigation was being held.

This comes just days after Sin Chew Daily newspaper published a graphic illustration featuring the Jalur Gemilang without the crescent moon on its front page.

The incident led to multiple police reports being filed against the media company, the suspension of two senior editors, and investigations by the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). Sin Chew has also issued an apology over the issue.

Kwong Wah Yit Poh is also being investigated over a Facebook post purportedly showing the Jalur Gemilang without the crescent moon.
