Justice Radzi Harun said all documents, including a copy of the CCTV recordings from the police lockup in Bentong, Pahang, must be handed over to lawyers representing G Jestus Kevin’s family in the interest of justice.
Radzi said the counsel were to be given recordings of the relevant date and time of the incident only, and the recordings should not be disseminated or shared.
Lawyer M Visvanathan, who was assisted by Sanjay Visvanathan, told FMT the coroner would fix a date to allow the investigating officer to give his testimony before wrapping up the inquest.
Last year, Sanjay, who was holding a watching brief for Kevin’s family during the inquest, had requested the recordings from the coroner to prepare questions for the investigating officer.
However, the coroner denied the request, stating that the recordings were “sensitive” and might fall into the wrong hands.
Kevin’s father, A Ganaprakasam, 66, then filed a revision application to the High Court in December which was heard today.
Kevin and another suspect, M Pathmarajah, were arrested by the police for theft on April 2, 2020, and were remanded for four days pending investigation.
Kevin became delirious at around 9pm, two days after his arrest, while being held in a cell. He was then moved to a cell occupied by two other inmates, Shaiful Zakaria and Azril Yusof.
A post-mortem report revealed Kevin died of blunt force trauma, cardiomyopathy and liver steatosis.
