Victim of gas pipeline fire still in ICU, says health minister

Dzulkefly Ahmad says the 21-year-old man has shown slight improvement but remains intubated at a private hospital.

A man who was seriously injured in the recent gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, is still warded in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital, says health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad.

He said the 21-year-old man is still dependent on a ventilator but has shown slight improvement, Bernama reported.

“I received a report that he is getting slightly better. Let’s pray for his recovery.

“He is intubated but improving. He is now on inotropes, which are also showing better response,” Dzulkefly was quoted as saying at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

On the status of other victims receiving medical treatment, Dzulkefly said a total of 30 people were still being treated at both public and private hospitals.

“There are currently 17 victims admitted to private hospitals, 13 in government hospitals and one ICU case in a private hospital,” he told reporters.

The Petronas gas pipeline explosion and fire, which broke out on the morning of April 1 in Putra Heights, engulfed a 500m section of a gas pipeline.

The incident left 81 houses destroyed with structural damage exceeding 40%, and 81 partially destroyed. Another 57 houses were affected but not burned, while 218 homes were unaffected.
