PETALING JAYA:
Shamsul Iskandar Akin easily clinched the PKR Hang Tuah Jaya division chief post in Melaka PKR’s division elections yesterday, but deputy youth and sports minister Adam Adli was soundly defeated in his bid to become deputy chief.

Shamsul, who serves as Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s senior political secretary, defeated incumbent Rafee Ibrahim with 1,995 votes to 736.

In contrast, Adam received only 791 votes, while his rival Zamzizul Nordin won convincingly with 1,905 votes.

The results were announced this morning by the party’s election committee.

Over in Perlis, former Kangar MP Amin Ahmad successfully defended his position as PKR Kangar division chief after defeating Indera Kayangan assemblywoman Gan Ay Ling.

However, it was an even closer contest for the deputy chief’s post with Amin’s running mate, Azam Karap, getting 1,134 votes, losing by just 78 votes to Nazman Omar, who obtained 1,212.

Another of Amin’s allies, Mokhtar Che Kassim, was also defeated in the race for vice-chief, receiving 1,114 votes to Som Chai Lom’s 1,233.
