PETALING JAYA:
The soldier who was recently charged with punching a female driver after a road accident has been hauled to the Seremban magistrates’ court again – this time for allegedly damaging her car.

Abdul Hafis Abu Bakar, 35, pleaded not guilty to a charge of committing mischief after it was read out before magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli, Sinar Harian reported.

He is accused of damaging the front door of a car belonging to Syairah Md Sharom, 28, during an incident in Taman Satria, Senawang, around 10.20pm on March 29.

The charge, framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code, carries a penalty of one to five years in prison, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nadia Ezzati Mohd Zainal proposed bail of RM8,000.

However, Hafis’s lawyer Syed Fadil Syed Othman sought a minimal amount, saying that his client had two young children and a wife who is a homemaker.

The court allowed bail at RM2,000 with one surety and fixed May 19 for case mention.

On Monday, Hafis was charged in the same court with voluntarily causing hurt to a woman driver by punching her in the head after a road accident. He claimed trial.

The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, provides for imprisonment of up to one year, a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
