A 10-year-old boy died while three others were injured when three vehicles collided on the Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur road near Kampar last night.

The boy, Jayden Leong, from Taman Perpaduan Koperasi here, died at the scene from severe injuries, police said. His father, Leong Hon Kin, 46, who was driving, and his sister Jeno Leong, 13, who was in the rear seat, suffered head and leg injuries and were taken to hospital.

Kampar district police chief Nazri Daud said police received information about the collision at about 10.35pm last night.

Preliminary investigations showed that a Toyota Hilux driven by a 44-year-old man from Ipoh is believed to have lost control while heading towards Kampar and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with Leong’s Perodua Bezza and a Perodua Myvi.

The Hilux driver tested positive for cannabis and has been detained to assist in investigations into reckless driving causing death, Nazri said.
