PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested six men who were involved in a brawl in Medan Seri Keramat, Kuala Lumpur late Sunday night.

Ampang Jaya police chief Azam Ismail said a report was lodged at 12.19am yesterday about a fight involving two groups of men.

It was allegedly sparked by one of the suspects provoking another man, who then called up a few of his friends to retaliate, leading to the brawl.

The fight led to a man getting injured and sent to the Ampang Hospital for treatment

Azam said the six men then went to the Hulu Kelang police station to lodge reports about the incident. While there, one of the suspects punched another suspect in the face and kicked him as well.

He said all six men, aged 20 to 40, were then arrested and placed under a three-day remand to assist with investigations after it was found that they were involved in the fight.

According to Azam, two of the suspects have criminal records.

“The six suspects arrested do not include the suspect being treated in Ampang Hospital,” he added.

Investigations are being held under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting with a weapon, which is punishable by up to two years in jail, or a fine, or both, if convicted.

One of the suspects is also being probed for disorderly conduct in a police station under Section 90 of the Police Act 1967, which provides for a maximum RM500 fine, up to six months’ imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.
