PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested the husband of a woman who was seriously injured after falling from the balcony of their fourth-floor apartment in Cheng, Melaka yesterday morning.

Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit said the 33-year-old lorry attendant was arrested while giving his statement at the Melaka Tengah police headquarters (IPD) at 4.30pm yesterday, Berita Harian reported.

“The suspect has been remanded for six days from yesterday to assist in the investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code (for attempted murder) and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994,” he was quoted as saying.

In the incident at around 8am yesterday, the 35-year-old housewife fell from the balcony of her home after allegedly arguing with her husband about the overdue rent, and unpaid electricity and water bills.

A neighbour then heard a loud thud before finding the woman lying on her back at the ground floor of the apartment building, and immediately informed the police.

Patit said the victim is being treated in Melaka Hospital’s intensive care unit for a head injury, fractured spine, broken right arm, fractured left ribs and internal abdominal injuries.

He added that the victim is still sedated, but her condition is stable.
