
In a Facebook post today, Zamri said he is being represented by 13 lawyers, and expressed gratitude to his supporters for standing in solidarity with him “for the sake of the truth”.
“We will fight for the truth because I was taught ‘lawan tetap lawan’,” he said, quoting a popular war cry often used by PKR supporters and leaders.
Zamri is being remanded for two days to assist in the sedition probe. He is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.
The preacher was arrested yesterday after a complainant accused him of sedition and tarnishing the reputation of the Hindu faith.
Zamri courted controversy earlier this month after remarking on Facebook that Hindu worshippers performing the kavadi ritual said “vel vel” while appearing to be possessed or drunk.
His remarks followed a controversy surrounding three Era FM radio hosts who were widely criticised for mocking the kavadi ritual. Zamri himself became the subject of nearly 900 police reports.
On March 12, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said police were awaiting further instructions from the Attorney-General’s Chambers after submitting their investigation paper on that case.
