Speaking to reporters after officiating the 29th HASiL Day 2025 here, Anwar reiterated how multiple meetings were held with the then-prime minister when he was the opposition leader.
“So, let’s have discussions first. The draft can be revised. Why make a fuss about it publicly?
“Do they just want to be ‘street heroes’? Learn first,” he said, taking a swipe at opposition leaders, particularly Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin who said earlier today that his coalition had valid reasons to reject the draft.
Muhyiddin had said that the conditions imposed by the government were too strict and unfair.
Anwar also dismissed claims that opposition MPs were struggling financially.
“Do you know how much an MP earns if you include all allowances? It reaches RM30,000 to RM40,000. So, it’s not that they don’t have money,” he said.
He added that projects in opposition-held constituencies were still ongoing, only implemented directly rather than through the elected representative.
“The only difference is whether it goes directly to the people or through the MP’s proposal,” he said, adding that MPs could play a role in proposing initiatives.
“So to say that the people are burdened is untrue.”
