Timur Laut deputy police chief Lee Swee Sake said the 46-year-old man claimed he found the bullets at a house that he cleaned last year.
The man was arrested after he presented himself at the district police headquarters at 1pm today, said Lee.
“Following an interrogation, the man admitted to leaving the bag containing the bullets at the scene for disposal before contacting the authorities,” he said in a statement.
Lee added that the police are working to verify the man’s statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960, which criminalises the possession of firearms or ammunition without a valid licence or in quantities in excess of those authorised.
Those charged under the section face a maximum sentence of seven years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both upon conviction.
