PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested a man, believed to be mentally disabled, who allegedly hacked his father on the head with a parang.

Kangar police chief Yusharifuddin Yusop said the 45-year-old man, who had run away from home after the incident, was found in a weak state as he had not eaten for two days, Berita Harian reported.

He was arrested at about 10am today in a village in Kuala Perlis.

“He was wearing a green T-shirt and a sarong when arrested. He was in a weak condition and was found wandering around the village,” said Yusharifuddin.

He said police have yet to find the weapon used in the incident and investigations are ongoing.

The 73-year-old victim had escaped with injuries after being hacked on the head and ear. Police said the suspect had suddenly attacked his father from behind.

The case is being probed under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
