PETALING JAYA:
Police have obtained a seven-day remand order for a 19-year-old suspect to assist its investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a girl at a mosque in Batang Kali, Selangor, yesterday.

Magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri issued the remand order to hold the suspect until Feb 28, at the Kuala Kubu Bharu magistrates’ court this morning.

This is to facilitate the investigation under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017, Harian Metro reported.

Hulu Selangor police chief Ahmad Faizal Tahrim previously said they started the probe after receiving a report about the incident at 8.19am yesterday.

CCTV footage of the incident, which went viral, showed a person sneaking into the ladies’ area of a mosque before grabbing the victim from behind while she was performing morning prayers behind a congregation of women.

Members of the public with information about the case are urged to contact the Hulu Selangor police headquarters at 03-60651021 or the nearest police station.

Harian Metro later reported that the suspect had been assessed as a person with disabilities (OKU).

Selangor welfare department director Azmir Kassim was quoted as saying that investigations found that the individual had held an OKU card since childhood.
