PETALING JAYA:
The tremors and sounds of explosions that jolted Bagan Ajam residents in Butterworth, Penang, this morning were due to an air drill held by the air force, say police.

Seberang Perai Utara police chief Anuar Abdul Rahman said they were notified about the incident at about 11.45am and had checked with the air force base in Butterworth.

“The air force informed us that they were conducting a ‘force down’ bombing exercise involving a Sukhoi Su-30MKM, an F/A-18D Hornet and a C130H aircraft.

“The exercise involved an air-to-ground manoeuvre, which is a simulation of bombing enemy areas carried out within the Butterworth air base,” he said in a statement.
