Keropok vendor jailed 40 months for assaulting pregnant wife

A keropok vendor has been sentenced to 40 months in prison by the Kuala Terengganu sessions court for assaulting his two-month pregnant wife with a hammer and cement scraper.

Ahmad Isma Mirza Ahmad Zarir, 32, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at a house in Taman Desa Baruh Tanjong Damai, Kuala Terengganu, Buletin TV3 reported.

He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A, for voluntarily causing hurt to his spouse.

Judge Zul Zakiqudin Zulkifli ordered the prison sentence to start from the date of arrest on Feb 4.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Nabihah Hanin Ayim led the prosecution while Ahmad Isma was represented by a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation.
