PUTRAJAYA:
The Cabinet has granted in-principle approval for Selangor and Penang to adopt the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672), making them the latest states to implement the law.

Housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming said detailed discussions are ongoing to finalise the process.

“The Cabinet encourages other states to follow suit to improve the quality of public cleansing services nationwide,” he told reporters after attending the 2025 Chinese New Year celebration organised by his ministry here today.

“My vision is clear … cleanliness is half of the faith, and it is our shared responsibility. I want to make Malaysia the cleanest, most beautiful, and safest country,” he said.

Act 672 aims to standardise solid waste management and public cleansing laws across the country.

On the illegal landfill at Kampung Seri Sentosa on Jalan Sungai Buloh-Kuala Selangor, Nga said the issue would be referred to the Selangor government for immediate action.

It was reported today that the landfill, initially covering 20ha, has expanded to 52ha because of uncontrolled dumping of industrial, construction and domestic waste by irresponsible parties.

It is said to pose a serious health threat to about 3,000 residents at Kampung Seri Sentosa, Bandar Seri Coalfields, Alam Perdana and Daunan Worldwide.
