Johor Umno Youth chief Noor Azleen Ambros said other state assemblies had also appointed assemblymen, namely Sabah, Terengganu and Pahang, but Nga had never criticised them.
Azleen pointed out that Pakatan Harapan had two appointed assemblymen in the Pahang assembly – Fadzly Ramly (Amanah) and Rizal Jamin (PKR) – as well as one in Sabah, PKR’s Grace Lee.
“Nga is being inconsistent and selective. He’s using different standards for different states.
“Therefore, I challenge Nga to be consistent in his principles and push for PH’s appointed assemblymen in Pahang and Sabah to relinquish their posts, if he truly is opposed to the same concept being introduced in Johor.
“If the principles he touts are truly based on justice and transparency, then these principles should not evolve according to state or political interests,” he said.
Earlier, Nga claimed the Johor government’s decision to introduce appointed assemblymen was unconstitutional since these representatives would be unelected but enjoy the same powers and benefits as elected assemblymen.
He said PH will embark on a campaign to protest the decision by collecting signatures from Johoreans who oppose the move.
