64 fatal accidents recorded in Op Selamat this year

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain reported a decline in road fatalities and accidents nationwide during the six-day operation, with 124,286 summonses issued.

The number of fatal accidents recorded during Op Selamat from Jan 28 to Feb 2 dropped to 64 compared to 104 last year, says Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain.

Razarudin also said the number of deaths saw a decline, with 66 recorded, down from 117 in 2024.

“Of that total, motorcyclists and pillion riders accounted for the highest number of deaths at 47, a decrease from 82 in the previous Op Selamat operation,” he said in his speech at the Op Selamat 23 appreciation ceremony in conjunction with the Chinese New Year at Persada Plus here today.

He said the number of vehicles involved in accidents also declined to 10,715, compared to 12,414 last year.

Separately, Razarudin noted that 124,286 summonses were issued during Op Selamat 23, a drop from 183,033 summonses during the previous operation.
