Unemployed duo charged with murder of man, adopted son in Kedah

PETALING JAYA:
Two unemployed men were charged in the Alor Setar magistrates’ court today with the murder of an elderly man and his adopted son at a house in Tongkang Yard last month.

No pleas were recorded from Fitri Saiful Rizuan Musa, 29, and Haizan Abdul Rahim, 19, who nodded in acknowledgment after the charges were read to them before magistrate Nur Syifa Mohd Hamzah, Bernama reported.

They are jointly accused of murdering Ibrahim Mydin, 61, and  Muslim Zaini, 23, at a house on Lorong Rose, off Jalan Kota Tanah in Tongkang Yard at 3.30am on Jan 21.

The charges were framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years and a mandatory whipping of at least 12 strokes of the cane.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Huda Diyanah Amir Hamzah appeared for the prosecution while the accused were unrepresented.

The court denied bail and scheduled the next mention for May 14 pending the completion of the forensic report.

Police apprehended five individuals, aged between 19 and 53, including Fitri, who is also Ibrahim’s nephew, to assist in the investigation.

This followed the discovery of a petrol-filled bottle and fuel traces at the scene.

Three of the arrested individuals tested positive for drugs.
