Number of flood victims in Sabah, Sarawak, continues to rise

There are currently 9,398 and 5,617 flood victims being housed in temporary relief centres in Sarawak and Sabah, respectively.

PETALING JAYA:
The number of flood victims in Sabah and Sarawak continues to rise, with 15,015 people being housed at temporary relief centres compared with 11,886 people last night.

In Sarawak, the number of victims has increased to 9,398 people as of 8am, up from 7,503 people last night, Bernama reported.

According to the latest report from the Sarawak disaster management committee secretariat, Bintulu has the highest number of flood victims, with 4,021 people placed in six centres, followed by Serian with 1,886 people in 15 centres.

In Tatau, 1,353 people are still taking shelter in four centres, while 900 people in Selangau are being housed in four centres. A total of 475 victims have been placed in three centres in Kuching.

In Sabah, the state’s disaster management committee secretariat reported that 5,617 flood victims are being housed in the 39 centres that have been opened across 10 districts.

A total of 2,944 flood victims are being housed in nine centres in Kota Marudu.

Other affected districts include Pitas, with 768 flood victims; Lahad Datu, with 443 flood victims; and Telupid, with 413 flood victims.
