“PAS needs to know that not all Yeohs are related,” the youth and sports minister said in a brief post on X.
She was responding to a video of Razman, the Gunong Semanggol assemblyman, claiming that she was the “daughter of a rich man” and a “daughter of YTL”.
YTL was founded by the late Yeoh Tiong Lay as a construction company in 1955. It became one of Malaysia’s largest conglomerates, involved in utilities, hotels, and property development.
Tiong Lay’s son, Francis, is currently the executive chairman of YTL Group.
Yeoh’s private secretary, Nor Miswary Ramli, also criticised Razman, likening his claim to that of Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhammad, who said that DAP veterans Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng were linked to the late Communist Party of Malaya leader Chin Peng.
Siti Mastura, also of PAS, had also claimed Seputeh MP Teresa Kok was a cousin of Guan Eng’s wife, Betty Chew.
She was ordered by the High Court to pay the DAP trio a total of RM750,000 in damages for defamation.
“After Siti Mastura paid off the damages for slandering the three DAP leaders, here comes another one,” said Nor Miswary.
“The sense of these PAS leaders: just because some people share the same surname, they assume that they are definitely related.”
