PETALING JAYA:
A man believed to have threatened actor-comedian Harith Iskander and his family has been arrested, the nation’s top cop said.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the 31-year-old suspect was nabbed today after Harith’s manager, his former wife Dr Jezamine Lim, lodged a report last night, Harian Metro reported.

Razarudin said the suspect will be remanded until Jan 28 to facilitate investigations under Sections 506 and 509 of the Penal Code, which deals with criminal intimidation and insulting the modesty of a person, respectively.

“Police also seized the suspect’s handphone,” he was quoted as saying.

Earlier today, Lim revealed that she had received a death threat and abusive messages aimed at their children, prompting the cancellation of Harith’s stand-up comedy show at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas.

Harith is under investigation by the police for a satirical post on the use of the word “ham” following controversy over the halal status of sandwiches sold in a convenience store at Universiti Malaya.

He said in a Facebook post last week that his faith was shaken after seeing a menu advertising “Ham Sap Coffee” as it contained the word “ham”.

Police have taken his statement.
