PETALING JAYA: Flooding in Sarawak has cut off a major road to certain vehicles in Beluru, while teachers at a primary school in Ulu Niah have been left stranded.
The fire and rescue department said Jalan Beluru-Long Lama leading to villages and longhouses around the Bakong to Long Lama area was cut off while floodwaters were rising following continuous rain.
Seven longhouses and SK Sungai Seputi were inaccessible as a result, The Borneo Post reported.
In Niah, 14 teachers at SK Rumah Ranggong were left stranded because of flash floods at about noon. They contacted firefighters for help as the road to the school was flooded.
The teachers were safely evacuated.
Ninety people from 21 families in the Betong district are being sheltered at two relief centres.
