Utusan reported Subang Jaya police chief Wan Azlan Wan Mamat as saying the man in his 20s was arrested at midnight yesterday in Kulai, Johor.
“The suspect has been remanded for seven days from today until next Wednesday to aid investigations.
“Early investigations found that the suspect and victim had met on social media,” he said in a statement today.
Police were previously reported as receiving a report on the case from a clinic doctor at 12.12am on Jan 11.
Wan Azlan said the victim’s friend took her to the clinic for a pregnancy check, during which the doctor found her to be 10 weeks pregnant.
“The victim and suspect had been acquainted via social media since November.
“After that, the victim and suspect slept together several times at the latter’s rented home in Bandar Sunway,” he said.
Wan Azlan said the victim, who lives in Petaling Jaya, was afraid of informing her family of her pregnancy, and only told a friend.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, which is punishable by 20 years’ imprisonment and 10 strokes of the rotan.
