Cops nab salesman over gun, ammo discovered at Butterworth beach

An angler found a box containing a pistol and 67 bullets on Pantai Robina on Tuesday, according to Penang police.

Police have arrested a salesman to help in an investigation into the discovery of a box containing a pistol, multiple magazines and 67 bullets on the shore of Pantai Robina in Butterworth, Penang.

Penang police chief Hamzah Ahmad said the 28-year-old man was apprehended at Teluk Air Tawar, Butterworth, at about 2.15pm yesterday.

“An investigation is ongoing,” Bernama quoted him as saying today, adding that the man has been remanded for seven days.

On Tuesday, an angler found the plastic-wrapped box containing the pistol and bullets at Pantai Robina while fishing nearby at about 4.30am.

The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 for unlawful possession of a firearm.
