Prasarana Malaysia Bhd said a total of 1.27 million passengers used its five rail networks yesterday, while 207,226 used its bus and demand responsive transit (DRT) services.
It added that this was a 30% increase compared with the daily numbers.
The Kajang MRT line saw the highest number of passengers, with 368,018, followed by the Kelana Jaya LRT (345,791), Ampang-Sri Petaling LRT (244,878) and Putrajaya MRT (221,252).
Prasarana said the high number of passengers was due to New Year’s Eve countdowns and celebrations in and around Kuala Lumpur, which saw the company extending the operating hours for its rail and bus services.
“Rapid KL is very proud to have met the needs of users last night, boosting the confidence of residents in the city in our modes of public transport,” said Prasarana Group CEO and president Azharuddin Mat Sah.
“The success in handling the large number of passengers proves that Rapid KL staff possess the skills and efficiency to serve the rakyat well,” he added.
