PAS Youth deputy chief Hafez Sabri said the “Himpunan Bangkit Ummah” protest will be held outside the Masjid Jamek mosque in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, after Friday prayers.
Hafez said the rally went beyond political lines and was aimed at defending the rights of Muslims, adding that they would also be protesting against senior DAP leaders Hannah Yeoh and Nga Kor Ming.
“We welcome all entities. This is not a matter of politics, this is an issue for Muslims. And everyone has the right to protest and air their views,” he said at a press conference at the PAS headquarters here.
PAS’s ally Bersatu has lodged multiple reports against Yeoh, the youth and sports minister, accusing her of attempting to convert Muslims and turn Malaysia into a Christian nation.
This was after Yeoh’s defamation suit against former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan over a statement he made was dismissed.
He had allegedly accused Yeoh of writing her book titled “Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey” to make Malaysia a Christian nation, destroy Islam and the country and place her personal interests above that of the nation’s.
On the other hand, Nga was slammed by PAS over a Christmas celebration at his housing and local government ministry, which involved some Muslim staff.
A ministry source however said they did not force any of its personnel to attend the function, and that the carollers who performed at the event were Christians from East Malaysia while the songs were secular in nature.
