Ophthalmologist who treated Anwar’s black eye dies

Dr Ahmad Shukri Mohamed had also testified at a royal commission of inquiry into the injury the then opposition leader sustained while in police custody.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Ophthalmologist Dr Ahmad Shukri Mohamed, who treated Anwar Ibrahim’s black eye after he was beaten while in police custody back in 1998, has died.

In a social media post, the prime minister said Shukri was among those who appeared as a witness to testify at a royal commission of inquiry on his eye injury to dismiss allegations that he (Anwar) had harmed himself while in police custody.

“The services and sincerity of the late Dr Ahmad Shukri will always be remembered,” he said.
