Terengganu police chief Khairi Khairuddin said this was believed to have led to the group beating up the 20-year-old student in turns, Buletin TV3 reported.
“The fight may have been caused by them accusing the victim of committing an activity that violates human norms, but I don’t want to disclose what the accusations pertained to.
“For now, medical officers have confirmed that the victim did not suffer internal bleeding or broken bones. He only suffered bruises and he will continue to be monitored,” he was quoted as saying.
Khairi also said the victim was believed to have been beaten with a wooden stick, although further investigations were ongoing.
The 12 UMT students, aged 20 to 22, are under remand until Saturday. They were arrested after a man lodged a police report claiming that his son had been assaulted at the university’s dormitory between 1am and 5am last Sunday.
A medical officer confirmed that the victim had suffered blunt force trauma to his arms, waist, chest, abdomen, and leg.
The victim was said to have been beaten with a blunt object, choked, kicked, and punched.
