Yusoff Rawther claims trial to cannabis trafficking charge

PETALING JAYA:
Former research assistant Yusoff Rawther pleaded not guilty in the High Court in Kuala Lumpur to a charge of trafficking in 305gm of cannabis.

The 31-year-old entered his plea after the charge was re-read to him before Justice Jamil Hussin following the transfer of the case to the High Court.

The court set Dec 13 for case mention, reported Bernama.

Yusoff was charged in the magistrates’ court here on Sept 12 with trafficking in the drugs, but no plea was recorded as the case fell under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The charge was framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

According to the charge sheet, Yusoff is accused of trafficking in the drugs at a car park in front of the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters at 10.15am on Sept 6.

Yusoff was represented by lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali, while the prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Sabri Othman.

On Oct 9, he claimed trial in the magistrates’ court to a charge of possessing replica pistols.

According to the charge sheet, the two replica pistols were found on him near Sanada Kiara Condominium on Jalan Bukit Kiara at 9.25am on Sept 6.

The charge, under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960, provides for imprisonment of up to one year, or a maximum fine of RM5,000, or both if convicted.
