The Machang MP said this would counter bureaucracy in the distribution of aid to victims, which is currently being handled by the implementation coordination unit of the Prime Minister’s Department.
The Bersatu leader said many residents in Kelantan had experienced total losses as a result of the floods, and were in urgent need of aid.
“Issues that can be resolved in a week take a month. We elected representatives are meant to be facilitators to help the people on the ground.
“We appeal to the prime minister, who is also the finance minister, to have compassion and distribute flood aid directly to the elected representatives,” he said in a press conference at Parliament.
In Kelantan, 13 MPs are from Perikatan Nasional while only one, Gua Musang MP Azizi Abu Naim, supports the unity government.
As of 1.30pm today, there were 83,217 flood victims housed at 325 shelters in seven states. Kelantan is the worst-hit state with 49,721 evacuees.
