Number of flood victims rises to more than 146,600

Kelantan and Terengganu are worst-hit, but flood waters were receding in Perlis, Negeri Sembilan and Johor.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The number of flood victims housed in relief centres rose to 146,611 last night, with Kelantan continuing to record the highest number of evacuees.

However, relief centres in Perlis, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor have recorded a fall in the number of victims.

Kelantan is the worst-hit state with 93,158 people taking shelter  in relief centres. The highest number of victims were in Pasir Mas district (27,829), Tumpat (16,390), Kota Bharu (13,754), Pasir Puteh (9,466), Kuala Krai (6,951), Bachok (6,634), Machang (6,075) and Tanah Merah (5,334).

In Terengganu, the number of evacuees reached 41,409, with Besut the worst-affected district (15,984 victims). Other districts affected were Hulu Terengganu, Setiu, Dungun, Kuala Terengganu, Kemaman, Kuala Nerus and Marang.

The number of victims also rose in Kedah to 8,580 housed in 52 relief centres, in Johor to 507, and in Melaka to 293.

The number of victims fell in Perlis, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor.
