The health ministry said the latest case involves a 34-year-old Malaysian with a history of international travel within the past 21 days.

“The patient, who is being isolated, has received symptomatic treatment and is currently in stable condition,” said the ministry in a statement.

The patient began showing symptoms, including a rash on the hands, body, and feet, on Nov 15. He sought medical treatment on Nov 23.

All close contacts are being identified and monitored for signs and symptoms of mpox.

On Sept 16, the health ministry confirmed that one positive mpox clade II case had been detected.

Mpox clade I viruses are categorised as highly contagious and have a 10% mortality rate, while clade II has a lower mortality rate.

Mpox causes flu-like symptoms and pus-filled lesions on the body. A new sub-variant – clade Ib – has alarmed global health experts due to its ability to spread easily through close, personal contact.
