KUALA LUMPUR:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today said that the private sector had subsidised the cost of his working visits to five countries, which also included representatives from the companies in question.

Anwar said the likes of Petronas, Sapura Energy, Yinson, and Proton had borne 70% to 80% of the cost.

“We invited these companies which had business and investment interests (to join these trips), and they paid for the airfare and costs.

“And the government helps these companies to either import or export,” Anwar told the Dewan Rakyat.

He was responding to Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) who asked about the financial implications and outcomes of his recent trips abroad.

Anwar said the cost of travelling to Cairo (Egypt), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Lima (Peru), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and Doha (Qatar) was high but that he did not have the exact numbers.

Anwar had been on the move to these countries since Nov 9, returning to Malaysia yesterday.

He was also in China from Nov 4 to 7 for the Seventh China International Import Expo in Shanghai.
