PETALING JAYA:
Outspoken PKR veteran Hassan Karim has been summoned by the party’s disciplinary board over his public criticisms of the government, including the decision to award the rollout of the second 5G network to U Mobile.

According to a source in the know, the Pasir Gudang MP had been accused of smearing PKR’s image following his actions.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also said Hassan had been accused by the party of insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Hassan had been extremely critical of the government’s decision in the rollout of the second 5G network.

He had in a social media post accused the current government of repeating the same mistakes made by the previous administrations, especially during Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s first stint as prime minister.

Hassan also said that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration is now tainted by the re-emergence of crony capitalists.

At the Dewan Rakyat earlier this month, Hassan had asked whether U Mobile’s selection as the second network provider was influenced by “any particular individual within the company”, without naming anyone in particular.

Last month, PKR’s newly appointed secretary-general Fuziah Salleh urged Hassan to raise his concerns through internal party channels instead of making public statements.

Fuziah told FMT that Hassan may not have availed himself to mechanisms within the party before airing his views in public.

Earlier this year, Hassan said he was ready to face disciplinary action if the party took exception to his outspoken views on various issues.

However, Fuziah said none is pending, adding that she is focussed on promoting dialogue and ensuring internal channels are properly utilised before issues are vented in public.
