PETALING JAYA:
Two security guards have been arrested over a bag containing RM1 million in cash that was reported missing yesterday.

In a statement, Ampang Jaya police chief Azam Ismail said a 52-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested at 10pm yesterday. They will be remanded until Sunday.

Urine tests conducted on both were negative and they have no prior convictions for any criminal offence.

Earlier today, Selangor deputy police chief S Sasikala Devi said the bag was found in the middle of Jalan Hulu Kelang by a member of the public yesterday.

Sasikala said the bag was believed to have fallen from a security van while it was making a sharp turn, Bernama reported.

The van was believed to have been travelling from a bank in Ampang to Kuala Lumpur.

Yesterday, Azam confirmed that the cash had been collected by a security company from a bank at the Ampang Point mall.

Azam said the case is being investigated for theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
