PETALING JAYA:
A former Melaka assemblyman’s attempt at making a political comeback has failed after he did not win any positions at last week’s Hang Tuah Jaya Bersatu division elections.

Norhizam Hassan Baktee previously confirmed his candidacy for a position in the Hang Tuah Jaya Bersatu division but refused to disclose which post he was contesting.

A check by FMT on Hang Tuah Jaya Bersatu’s Facebook page found that Norhizam, who is popularly known as “YB Hulk” and “YB Viral”, was not included in the division’s committee for the 2024-2027 term.

Azrudin Idris was elected president and Jaffri Ibrahim his deputy. Ten committee members have also been appointed.

FMT is attempting to reach Norhizam for comment.

Previously, FMT reported that Norhizam, a former Melaka executive councillor, was confident of winning a position in the Hang Tuah Jaya Bersatu committee based on the positive feedback he had received from grassroots members.

Norhizam, who was with Umno before switching to DAP in 2006, was among the assemblymen who had a hand in toppling Sulaiman Ali’s government in 2021 after withdrawing support for the then Melaka chief minister.

Norhizam later declared his intention of becoming an MP in GE15, either under DAP or Umno. However, the two parties shut the door on him.
