Johor Bahru Utara police chief MS Balveer Singh said a report had been lodged on Oct 17 that the syndicate sold fake MCs to workers in the district.
Four days later, police arrested three men, aged between 26 and 27, in Iskandar Puteri, Plentong and Skudai, before arresting another man and two women, aged between 24 and 31, around Skudai and Masai, in Pasir Gudang, on Oct 23.
Balveer said police confiscated 1,363 false MCs, seven debit cards, seven phones, a motorcycle and RM40,000, Bernama reported.
He said two of the suspects were charged in court last Thursday, though he did not disclose the offence.
Investigations are ongoing on the other four suspects for cheating and the use and possession of forged documents, among others.
