
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the first case involved a woman, 44, who will be charged at 9am under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act 2007.
“Another woman, 54, will be charged in the magistrates’ court under Section 5(1) of the Care Centres Act 1993.
“The orders to charge were received from the deputy public prosecutor on Oct 15. The (second) suspect will also be charged at 9am tomorrow,” he was quoted by Bernama as saying.
He added that both suspects were being held under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.
Section 5(1) of the Care Centres Act relates to operating an unregistered care centre, punishable with a fine of not more than RM10,000, or imprisonment for up to two years, or both upon conviction.
Section 14 of the Atipsom Act, on the other hand, relates to child trafficking. It is punishable with imprisonment of not less than three years but not more than 20 years and a fine, upon conviction.
