
He said the coalition offers significant advantages, as each party brings its own strengths and expertise.
“I believe this is the most strategic coalition or political partnership to win the Sabah state elections. BN has to remain in the state government together with GRS and PH so that it can serve Sabahans and ensure their wellbeing,” he said in a statement.
Yesterday, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said BN and PH had finalised their decision to cooperate for the state assembly elections, expected to be held next year.
He said that the BN-PH agreement will form the foundation for cooperation in facing the elections.
Rahman, who is Tuaran Umno chief, said Sabah cannot escape from the fact that it still needs to engage with the federal government which remains an important ally in ensuring Sabah’s rights are fulfilled.
“We do not want any political upheaval which will halt the progress of talks between the state and federal governments regarding the rights of Sabahans,” he added.
Rahman, who is a member of the Umno Supreme Council, said the politics of hate should not be used to disrupt the progress of the talks.
“There are still many issues that need to be resolved and only an inclusive political approach will make it a reality. At the same time, trust that the never-ending cycle of conflict and political enmity will only complicate our efforts,” he said.
