PETALING JAYA:
The Securities Commission’s (SC) audit oversight board has prohibited auditor Sathiea Seelean Manickam from accepting clients and auditing any public interest entities or schedule funds for 12 months, effective yesterday.

In a statement today, the board also imposed a fine of RM87,500 on Sathiea.

According to the board, Sathiea was the partner of Morison Anuarul Azizan Chew, an audit firm formerly registered with it.

“Sathiea was also the engagement partner of a public-listed company, which was a client, for the financial period ended Dec 31, 2016, as well as financial years ended Dec 31, 2017 and Dec 31, 2018.

“Sathiea failed to comply with the relevant international standards when auditing the public-listed company.

“Specifically, he did not obtain sufficient audit evidence to support his opinion on financial statements in key audit areas, namely cash and bank balances, prepayments and investments,” it said.

The board said Sathiea had filed an appeal with SC against its enforcement action, which was rejected.
