KUALA LUMPUR:
Police fired seven shots at a four-wheel drive vehicle, with four men inside, when they tried to ram their patrol car while trying to escape an inspection in Serendah, near here, today.

Hulu Selangor police chief Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said in the 2.40am incident, policemen in a patrol car tried to stop the vehicle as it was being driven around suspiciously.

However, the driver of the four-wheel drive vehicle tried to ram the patrol car, forcing the policemen to open fire.

“All the suspects abandoned the vehicle and escaped,” Faizal said in a statement today.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, police found a parang, a sickle, a crowbar, screwdrivers and hammers.

He said further investigations found that the four suspects had prior criminal and drug-related records.

Police are tracking down the suspects and the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine upon conviction.
