Driver killed in tanker crash on KL-Karak highway, say cops

The driver of the tanker lorry which overturned on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak highway yesterday evening, died at the scene, according to the police.

Gombak district police chief Noor Ariffin Nasir said the victim, a 45-year-old man, was travelling from Lipis, Pahang, to Klang, Selangor when he lost control of the lorry, which was transporting palm oil, Bernama reported.

He added that the lorry then skidded and overturned at KM27.9 of the highway blocking all KL-bound traffic.

“The victim sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from Selayang Hospital,” he said in a statement today.

“The incident is believed to have been caused by slippery and wet road conditions.”

Following the 5.30pm incident yesterday, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) were reported to have advised motorists to use alternative routes.

The highway operator had also made a median opening for vehicles stuck in the traffic jam to allow them to make a U-turn at KM28.4 and turn back towards Genting Sempah to exit the route.

Meanwhile, the public is urged to assist with the investigation by contacting traffic investigation officer Rohaizad Hashim at 012-292 4420 or the Gombak district police headquarters operations room at 03-6126 2222.
