
He said the reality is that Barisan Nasional (BN) had won 40 out of the total 56 seats in the state elections held in March 2022, giving them a two-thirds majority in the state legislative assembly, Harian Metro reported.
Of the remaining 16 seats, PH won 12, Perikatan Nasional (3) and Muda (1). DAP holds the highest number of seats after Umno with 10.
“This is the reality that we (PH) must accept.
“That is why I hope the recent polemic surrounding a proposed unity government in Johor will not be raised (again) and put to rest,” he was quoted as saying after officiating the Johor DAP convention today.
He said DAP is currently comfortable playing a check-and-balance role in the state assembly.
Loke pointed out that his party had never begged for positions in the state government and that if they wanted such positions, they would fight for them in the elections.
Amanah Youth chief Hasbie Muda called for a unity state government to be formed in Johor following Barisan Nasional’s landslide win in the Mahkota by-election on Sept 28.
Before the by-election, Johor Amanah chief Aminolhuda Hassan also made a call for a unity government to be set up in the state should the BN candidate win the seat.
In September last year, Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi was reported to have said that there was no need for Johor to form a unity government, as the state government had already been established following the state elections held eight months before the 15th general election (GE15) in November 2022.
