PETALING JAYA:
Sarawak has launched its first esports training hub and certification academy, intended to serve as a platform to develop professional esports players along with those working behind the scenes.

The esports satellite campus is a collaboration between the Human Resource Development Corporation, through its technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programme, and Centexs Commercial, a Sarawak government-linked agency.

In a statement, Centexs Commercial said that the facility, located at Juma’ani Pavilion in Kuching, is expected to become Sarawak’s driving force for capacity building and to develop a skilled local workforce for the esports industry.

It also targets those involved in the technical aspects, marketing and management.

It aims to provide training for both professional and amateur players, as well as serve as a networking hub for industry stakeholders.

The hub will offer training in areas such as gaming strategies, event management and digital content creation.

“One of the standout features of this hub is that it offers educational courses, including accommodation and meals, free of charge to youths from Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah,” Centexs Commercial said.

This hub is also set to host capacity building programmes and provide space for world-class esports events, with plans to host tournaments such as the FIFAe World Cup in the future.

Among the facilities are dedicated training centres, competition rooms, production studios, racing simulators and a high-tech esports cafe.

The facility was launched by deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Also present was human resources minister Steven Sim.

At the same event, Zahid handed over a RM30 million cheque to Centexs Commercial to implement TVET programmes for sectors such as oil and gas, manufacturing, hospitality and renewable energy.
