DAP women’s wing vice-chief Young Syefura Othman mentioned that in politics, the unexpected may occur, such as PH’s cooperation with Barisan Nasional to form the unity government.
“For me, it is up to PAS on how they wish to organise their political cooperation. PAS and DAP have worked on the same objectives together before (under Pakatan Rakyat).
“We may not be on the same path now but in the future, we cannot rule out any possibility. Just like what happened after GE15. Who would have thought PH would collaborate with BN to form the government?” she told FMT.
In his keynote address at PAS’s 70th muktamar yesterday, the party’s president declared that his party remained committed to Perikatan Nasional and that it would never collaborate with PH.
PAS was part of the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat coalition, together with PKR and DAP. Despite its cooperation in the 13th general election in 2013, PAS pulled out of the coalition a few months after the death of its former spiritual leader, Nik Aziz Nik Mat, in February 2015.
Some PAS leaders and their supporters then left the party to form Amanah, which then forged a new coalition with PKR and DAP.
PH never brought up cooperation with PAS
PKR Youth chief Adam Adli said PH has never brought up the subject of cooperation with PAS. He also reminded Hadi that currently, the government’s focus was on “managing and administering the country”.
He said many issues need to be addressed but he was certain that the issue of collaborating with PAS had never been brought up.
“Such political matters are not a priority at the moment,” he said.
Selangor Amanah deputy chief Azli Yusof called for PAS to remain a credible opposition, saying Hadi’s stance in not wanting to cooperate with PH was a good move.
He said PAS should just provide constructive criticism and suggestions for nation-building.
“Instead of constantly providing negative perceptions about the government’s efforts to revive the economy, help build investor confidence instead and help the public manage the cost of living.
“Do not continually stir up religious and racial sentiments,” Azli said.
