
PN secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said Haizan, who now works as a football coach, was a former footballer who had played under the Johor Football Association.
In announcing Haizan’s candidacy tonight, Hamzah said the Kluang native’s discipline and closeness with the youths has made him a popular figure among the multiracial community in the area, giving PN an edge in the polls.
The father of three had served as a local councillor with the Kluang Municipal Council, and also runs his own food business on the side.
The by-election was called following the death of Mahkota assemblyman Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on Aug 2.
Barisan Nasional has named Kluang Umno Youth chief Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah as its candidate for the upcoming by-election.
