Grasscutter gets 28 years’ jail, 24 strokes for raping sister-in-law

The Kuala Terengganu sessions court found the 39-year-old guilty of three counts of statutory rape.

PETALING JAYA:
A grasscutter has been sentenced to imprisonment for 28 years and 24 strokes of the rotan by the sessions court in Kuala Terengganu for raping his sister-in-law.

Judge Nooriah Osman found the 39-year-old man guilty of three counts of rape under Section 376 of the Penal Code.

He was accused of raping the then 12-year-old girl at a house in Marang, Terengganu, between February and July 2021, reported Berita Harian.

Nooriah sentenced him to 14 years’ of jail and 10 strokes of the cane on each charge.

However, she ordered the accused to serve his sentence for the second and third charges concurrently from today, reducing the total number of years to 28.

The judge also reduced the number of strokes to 24, in accordance with the maximum provided under Section 288 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The court has allowed the accused RM35,000 bail and stay of the execution of the sentence.
