Johor police chief M Kumar said his team received a report about the posts today and launched an investigation immediately.
He said his officers arrested the bus driver, aged 24, in Simpang Renggam, Johor, at 3am and confiscated his phone.
The case is being investigated under Section 15(a)(iii) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for repeatedly or constantly following or watching or contacting a child by any means for sexual purposes, and Section 15(2) of Child Act 2001 for posting the picture of any child, which may lead to the identification of any child so concerned.
Kumar urged the parents of those who appeared in the posts to assist in the investigation.
Yesterday, women, family and community development minister Nancy Shukri ordered her officers to file a police report against the suspect.
Nancy called the behaviour “unacceptable”, saying it violated the children’s rights and privacy under the Child Act 2001.
In some of the video posts on TikTok, a school bus driver would call the children his “crush” or “beloved” in the captions of the videos, while the children’s faces were clearly visible. His videos have garnered 10.5 million likes to date.
